Lidia Russell specializes in fine art, landscape, contemplative, and storytelling photography. Her work has been showcased in educational, literary, travel, and art publications, and exhibited in photography galleries and museums in the United States and Europe (the Photo Place Gallery, the Foley Gallery, the Glasgow Gallery of Photography, and the Griffin Museum of Photography, among others).
Lidia has experience in analogue and pinhole photography. As a member of the Click Academy group, she utilized pinhole photography as a medium for driving social change. One of her projects, which explored the creation myth of the Abenaki people and the White Mountains region, was featured at the Re:visions Independent Art Festival in Warsaw, Poland.
Lidia holds a Master’s degree in Polish Language and Literature as well as in Library and Information Science, and has completed postgraduate diploma studies in Politics (focusing on the Social and Political Problems of Multiculturalism). Her ongoing education in photography includes programs from the Pacific New Media Foundation.
With a background in journalism and publishing, coupled with professional experience in education and state administration, she offers a multifaceted perspective informed by her interests in spirituality, deep ecology, and art.
Lidia's photography practice consists of poetic narratives about the environment, landscapes, places, and fleeting moments, revealing the deeper realities that lie beneath the surface. For her, a successful photograph mirrors a contemplative experience, and serves as a gateway to a hidden dimension of reality where the unseen life of our visible world can be felt.
With over 20 years of meditation practice, Lidia approaches the world as a seeker of spiritual truths and awakening. She looks for ways to express inner stillness and movements, the invisible energies that pulse throughout our world. Lidia deeply values time spent in nature and with husband and family. Her passions include hiking, traveling, dancing, painting, and writing.
Originally from Poland, she is based in the Boston area. Her most recognized, ongoing project "Desert Landscapes" weaves a poetic narrative that explores the spiritual essence of the American Southwest.
